Terms of use
Last updated: 9 October 2026
These terms cover reusing what you find on Who Owns Your Vet?: the directory of practices, who owns each one, and the evidence behind it. Looking up vets for yourself needs nothing from you.
Reusing the data
The site's content is licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0. You may copy, quote, share and adapt it for non-commercial purposes, as long as you credit “Who Owns Your Vet?” and link to the page you used. Journalists, researchers, campaigners, students and pet owners are all welcome to use it this way. The regional CSV downloads on our data page come under the same licence.
Commercial use
Using the data for commercial advantage needs a licence from us. That includes building it into a product or service, selling a report or analysis made from it, and using it in client work or investment research. We offer a licensed export of the full dataset. Get in touch to discuss it.
Automated access
You're welcome to link to the site and read it. If you fetch it with software:
- Follow our robots.txt.
- Keep to a modest rate. We limit how fast one address can request pages and searches, and answer HTTP 429 above the limit.
- Don't copy the directory, or a substantial part of it, for commercial use without a licence, whether by crawling pages, paging through search or any other means.
- For AI assistants, use our MCP server: it answers questions with live, citable results.
Our rights in the data
We built this database by checking practices against official registers such as Companies House and the charity registers. Apart from what the licence above allows, we keep our copyright and database rights in it.
Accuracy
Each classification is our reading of public records and can be wrong or out of date. Every practice page shows the evidence behind it and when it was last checked, and our methodology explains how we classify. If you reuse the data, please keep that context. To report a mistake, use our correction form. Nothing here is veterinary advice.
