From the front door to the ultimate owner

The name above a practice door is rarely the name of its owner. Follow any name on the left through the group that runs it to whose balance sheet your vet bill ultimately lands on — private equity funds in Sweden, Luxembourg and the US, a confectionery multinational, and two London-listed companies.

All bands are proportional to practice counts in our register (tiny bands are floored for legibility — exact counts are printed). “Former local practice names” are acquired practices still trading under their pre-acquisition name. Where a group has several owners, the flow splits by ownership stake.

7 owners, 40+ brand names

Corporate groups usually keep the local name of the practices they buy. The CMA found that fewer than half of people using a large group's practice knew it was part of a chain. These are the names each group trades under.

How this is put together

Practice records come from the RCVS Find a Vet register. Ownership is detected from practice websites, brand patterns and published group data, then verified where possible.

Ultimate-owner stakes are from each group's published ownership structure. Where a group has several investors, the diagram splits its practices by stake.

The CMA's market investigation (final report, March 2026) examined these groups' pricing and transparency. Read the CMA findings
