For AI assistants
Ask your AI assistant who owns your vet
Add our directory of every UK vet practice to Claude or ChatGPT. Then ask who owns any practice or which independents are near you, and get answers that show the evidence and link back here.
Server URL
https://whoownsyourvet.co.uk/mcp Free and read-only, with nothing to sign up for.
Add it to Claude or ChatGPT
Claude (web, desktop and mobile)
- Open Settings → Connectors (on some accounts, Customize → Connectors).
- Choose Add custom connector, call it “Who Owns Your Vet?” and paste the server URL. There is nothing to sign in to.
- In a chat, switch it on from the + menu and ask your question. Once you add it on the web, it’s in the mobile app too.
Free plans can add one custom connector. Answers come with a card you can filter.
ChatGPT
- Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
- Create a connector: name it “Who Owns Your Vet?”, paste the server URL and choose no authentication.
- In a chat, choose it from the + menu (or the tools menu).
Developer mode is on paid plans, and on Business and Enterprise an admin may need to allow it. Answers come with a card, and deep research can read our practice records and guides as sources.
Other assistants that connect to remote MCP servers work with the same URL. Setup for coding assistants is further down.
Things to ask
- “Who owns Abbey Vets in Bristol?”
- “Find independent vets near SW11 1AA.”
- “Is Medivet Watford part of a private-equity group?”
- “Which groups own the most vets in Scotland?”
- “Who owns IVC Evidensia, and how many practices does it have?”
- “My vet closed. Who owned it, and what’s open nearby?”
What your assistant can do
- Search UK vets
- By name, town, postcode or group, or nearest first around a place, with each practice’s owner and how many nearby are corporate, independent or non-profit.
- Who owns this vet?
- One practice’s record: its owner and who owns the owner, how we know and how sure we are, when it was last checked, its price list, out-of-hours cover, history and nearby alternatives.
- Vet group profile
- A group’s ultimate owners, how many practices it has and where, its brands and trading names, and findings such as the CMA’s. Or every group we track, by size.
- Ownership figures
- How ownership splits across the UK, a nation or a region, the largest groups there, and how many practices publish their prices.
- Search and read for research
- Practice records, group profiles and our guides (the CMA reforms, prescription fees, switching vets) as documents that ChatGPT deep research and other research tools can read in full and cite.
In Claude and ChatGPT, answers come with a card in the chat. It shows how ownership splits around you and a map of distances coloured by owner, lets you filter to independent, corporate or non-profit practices, and links to every record.
Answers that show their working
- Every classification says how we know it: Verified against official registers, Reported by the practice itself or a human check, or Unverified. Our methodology explains each tier.
- Where we found no corporate owner but nothing confirms the practice is independent, your assistant is told to say “no corporate owner found”, not “independent”.
- Every practice and group in an answer links to its page here, where you can report a correction.
- Your assistant can look things up but can’t change anything.
Using the data
Answers come from the same directory as this site and carry its licence, CC BY-NC 4.0: share and quote them with a credit to Who Owns Your Vet? and a link. The server answers questions a page of results at a time and won’t hand over the whole dataset. For commercial use or a full export, get in touch.
For developers
The server speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP (2025-11-25 and 2026-07-28) with MCP Apps UI, so coding assistants can use it too.

Questions
- Is it free? Do I need an account?
- It’s free, and there is nothing to sign up for. The server is public and read-only: it looks things up and never changes anything.
- Which AI assistants can use it?
- Claude and ChatGPT, which also show the results as a card. Any other assistant that can connect to a remote MCP server works too, including developer tools such as Claude Code, Codex, VS Code and Cursor.
- How does the assistant know the answer is right?
- Every answer comes with the evidence behind it and its tier: Verified (official registers such as Companies House), Reported (the practice’s own statement, or a human check) or Unverified. Where we found no corporate owner but nothing confirms independence, the assistant is told to say exactly that, and every answer links to the practice’s page.
- What do you record when my assistant uses it?
- Anonymous usage, so we can see what people ask for and fix what doesn’t work: which tool ran, how long it took, which assistant asked, and the one-line reason the assistant gives for each request. Postcodes are cut to their district (BS1 4DJ becomes BS1) before anything is stored, and nothing identifies you.
