▾

Who provides out-of-hours vet care in Scotland?

▾

Vets Now is the most common external out-of-hours provider in Scotland in our directory, covering 63 of the practices with a known arrangement. It is corporate-owned. Your daytime practice's own website should say who covers its out-of-hours care, and arrangements can change at short notice, so always contact the practice before travelling in an emergency.

Why does the out-of-hours provider matter?

▾

Emergency care is when you have the least choice of vet and face the highest bills. Many practices, including independent ones, hand overnight and weekend cover to a dedicated provider such as Vets Now, which is owned by IVC Evidensia, a private-equity-backed corporate group. The CMA’s veterinary market investigation flagged how hard it is for practices to switch out-of-hours providers. Knowing who actually treats your pet at 2am helps you compare practices on more than their daytime ownership.
